Media Hot and Cold Response
After reading "Media Hot and Cold", I have some understanding as to what the author means when referring to forms of media that is classified as hot and cold. The most outstanding example for me was when Marshall compared the tribal Australian's relationship with sharp steel weapons and how that was classified as hot while their stone weapons were considered cold. In comparison as the emergence of photoshop and the digital photography world, film and black and white photo's slowly became a part of the history. Although still used and appreciated by those who wish to achieve nostalgia, industry and production level professionals have moved on to the digitization of said practices.
Another area of the book which intrigues me is the explanation how hot mediums used within a hot or cool culture can make very drastic changes to society. What I understood from the excerpt is that it sees radio back in the day as a form of hot media and that if placed in third world countries during the time such as India or Afghanistan would reap violent affects that would not correlate on the scale of how the US and British were affected.
