Kathy O'Dell

I would like to say that my understanding of Kathy's book talks about many different perspectives. The part that I identified the most was how she defines the idea of identification. As it says in the book, Identification is a multilevel process that should involve the person looking at the subject and the subject. In conjunction with her title performance, Video and trouble in the home I agree that things can be classified as stages such as "extremely early", "sketchy" and "mirror" stage.

I believe that the comparison of acting as a sack of skin, is how it slowly fleshes out the performance. In my understanding I had the general idea that Kathy was taking the birth of a performance as the skin. Yet as the meaning and though process begin to seep into the performance, it reaches its mirror stage. This being the thought that the performance has recognized itself and given the audience a thought process where the performance lives beyond the medium it was brought forth into but into the audiences minds and eyes.
